About Us
The US-Vietnam Research Center devotes our efforts to promote research on three broad areas, including contemporary developments in Vietnam, US-Vietnam relations, and the Vietnamese-American community. At the University of Oregon, the Center is part of the Global Studies Institute headed by Professor and Vice Provost Dennis Galvan.
We strive to engage the public and the expert community in the US, Vietnam, and elsewhere through commissioned research, publications of source materials and research findings, and workshops and symposiums such as the ones below:
- International Workshop “Studying Republican Vietnam: Issues, Challenges, and Prospects,” held on October 14-15, 2019 in Eugene, Oregon. Proceedings of the papers presented at the Workshop are currently edited for publications that advocate a new direction in the study of modern Vietnamese history and politics.
- International Symposium “Vietnamese Communist Party’s 13th Congress: Dilemmas of Growth and Globalization,” to be held in Singapore on September 3-4, 2020 in collaboration with the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. This open event hopes to present cutting-edge analyses of contemporary Vietnamese politics and economy on the eve of the upcoming Congress of the ruling Communist Party.
The Center issues US-Vietnam Review, an internet journal that features regular analyses of current affairs, interviews with scholars and community leaders, and book reviews. We welcome contributions by scholars, researchers, or other readers in the forms of either analytical essays (under 2,000 words) or archival materials.
Our Center welcomes funding from private citizens, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. As a non-profit, non-partisan entity, gifts, and donations to our program are tax exempted. Gifts and donations are to be made to the University of Oregon Foundation and can be designated for specific projects or for our general endowment fund. Checks can be sent to:
